Domestic cat not going out. How to take care of him?

It takes approx. 3 minutes to read this article

A domestic cat requires special care. To ensure its healthy functioning, you need to remember a few rules.

The whole world of a domestic cat is four walls. So it is necessary to ensure that the territory is properly organized, so that our charge knows what he can afford and what is safe for him.

Above all, we must take care to minimize dangers on our part. This involves locking doors to rooms that should not be accessible to our houseguest every time. It is also important to hide delicate appliances and accessories that can be damaged by being knocked down or scratched. Domestic cats are inquisitive quadrupeds that are eager to explore every nook and cranny, even if their activity level is lower than that of their outgoing relatives.

Pay attention to the dangers

Again, the need to hide dangerous items should be emphasized here. This time, however, you need to consider detergents and other substances that can harm your cat. Sharp objects and small items, possible to swallow, can also be dangerous. It is necessary to pay attention to them and hide them in inaccessible drawers.

The domestic cat is not adapted to life outside the apartment. There is a danger that it will react badly to animals seen outside windows or doors. Be careful when opening them, so that our four-legged cat does not run off on a mad hunt. Not only will it be difficult to catch him, but, above all, he may hurt himself. If you have a balcony, try to fence it tightly, and preferably enclose it.

What accessories does it need?

A domestic cat, like others, needs bowls, a litter box with litter and a bed. However, special attention should be paid to scratching posts and other toys, including balls of crumpled newspaper or tissue paper and spools of thread. A non-outdoor pet needs special treatment in this regard. This is because he does not have many opportunities to “go out”. The accessories selected must therefore give him plenty of opportunities for movement. This involves frequent interaction with the guardian, who must move some of the toys. If, on the other hand, the cat’s needs are not met, his weight may be affected. He will also be more inclined to scratch the furniture, among other things.

Diet and grooming

Food should be easily digestible and rich in fiber. This will allow the domestic cat to easily dispose of hair swallowed during grooming, which is particularly frequent in his case. After all, in non-outdoor quadrupeds the moulting process continues throughout the year, due to constant exposure to light and constant room temperature. In addition, do not forget to regularly trim claws, take care of the hygiene of the mouth, eyes, nose and ears of cats. Despite the fact that domestic pets theoretically have a reduced risk of contact with viruses, they should be subjected to regular vaccinations and deworming.

It is a good idea to schedule frequent preventive visits to the veterinarian. Examinations and any other preventive treatments will ensure that our pets stay happy. The doctor will also tell you how to prevent fleas and parasites, and give you valuable tips on caring for your cat.
