Work and a host of other responsibilities can make relationships deteriorate over time. We advise how to improve relations with loved ones.
First of all, you need to devote your time to others. Let your family understand how much you value them. Show them that they come first. Don’t get distracted by media and work when you spend time together. There are many ways to prove that it is the family relationship that comes first for you. Above all, however, try to do everything as sincerely as possible.
Arrange to spend time together
Spending vacations or simply free time together doesn’t have to be expensive at all. The most important thing is that you give each other attention. A movie night, playing board games, preparing food or even going to a cafe are great steps to improve your relationship. This is a good opportunity to tell each other jokes and have spontaneous conversations. It is important to give yourself completely to the moment of spending time together.
Find out what your loved ones are interested in. During your conversations, try to talk about your passions, but also be inquisitive. Make it clear that you are interested in their stories and experiences. Try to refer to them in subsequent conversations. All these simple gestures will show that you value your loved ones’ opinions and are sincerely interested in them.
Try to show understanding to others, but also talk honestly about your doubts. Talking about feelings will help you better understand each party’s point of view. You can arrange it at lunch, during a walk or even after watching a movie. Although you will probably feel awkward at first, try to overcome this and remain uninhibitedly natural. Try to do this every time something concerns you.
Take care of simple habits
A simple greeting to start the day and a hug can do wonders. Try to show affection with gestures and words, even if they seem like an empty habit over time. Always appreciate the small successes of your loved ones and praise them for them. Remember to take joy in small daily events.
Eat meals together
Try to eat meals with your loved ones, even if you don’t seem to have time to do so. Take even a moment to exchange a few sentences over dinner together. A study at the University of Illinois found that families who eat together three or more times a week are healthier. Such meals have a huge impact on children’s health, reduce the risk of developing depression and promote healthy eating patterns resulting in a healthy weight and a healthy relationship with food.
In addition, eating with your family will help you get to know each other better, an excuse to share your day, feelings and insights. Plan a meal every day or at least a few times a week to engage with your family.
